Kaylee Prairie Harpy and ROSE TYLER STUFF!!

So here's one of the costumes I'm working on for Chattacon.

See how the sleeves are sewn into the princess seams? Yeah about that...

So here are some progress pics. All I have left to do is cut out and serge the back skirt pieces, add the sleeves and hem, attach the skirt and side panels, then I'm done!

Picturrrrrrrrrres!
Front - No Flash

Front - With Flash

Back

An idea of how I'm going to attach the sleeves along the princess seam.

I also need to get another pink doily that matches the flower so I can make the corners and make it rectangular.

Rose Tyler

So I showed off the boots from Boom Town and the Diesel jacket from "Aliens of London". Here's what else I've scored as of late...

Rock & Republic -Scorpion jeans in Addict Wash

These jeans are seen throughout Rose's tenure on Doctor Who. I'm super stoked I found a pair in my size!

Adidas 35th Anniversary Superstar II - New York

These are seen in The Christmas Invasion as well as The End of Time: Part 2. These are awesome!

I've also scored the Firetrap "Harrie" jacket in black from "The Empty Child". w00t!

Next up, I'll be starting my Disney Cinderella gown soon! ^_^

Costuming updates!

I'm really bad at updating, but that's because I've been busy building costumes...

Here are a few of my latest acquisitions:

Hobbs black buckle boots - AKA Rose Tyler's boots from "Boom Town"
They cost a fortune but totally worth it - plus they've never been worn!

Diesel jacket - As seen on Rose Tyler in "Aliens of London"
This one was hella cheap!

I'm also making the hoodie from Christmas Invasion as well as starting on Kaylee's prairie harpie dress. I also need to start on Cinderella - either the gown or the poor version - for the Disney meetup next month. @_@

A much overdue update...

Sorry everyone! Life has been hectic - Cons, D&D, Getting Married, Sewing, etc... But here are a few of the things I've been working on lately:

The Joker - Arkham Asylum/City version (aka also kind of Animated Series-ish too)
I made the entire outfit save for the gloves and undershirt. That means the entire tuxedo, the bowtie, the vest, the flower pin, as well as dying the wig. All me. :)
BTW - Anyone wanting to do a pinstripe Joker suit - I totally have an awesome source on the purple pinstripe fabric (took 6 months to find!)

Also - I made the Harley Quinn corset as well as the gauntlets and wig. I also added the diamonds to the pants.

Renge Houshakouji - Ouran High School Host Club

I found the fabric for the main part of the dress at Sir's Fabrics for $1/yd - I bought 10 yards because I knew I was going to have to double up the fabric (It's hella thin!!!) as well as line the dress in muslin.

I really should vlog more...

I'll work on that tonight. Promise. :D

Costuming Updates!

So, since Dragon*Con is 19 days away (HOLY SHIT WHAT!?), I'll post the updates on how my costumes for it are coming along.

Mustafar Padme - The buckle and broach are both done - well, sculpted anyway. I've bought the glaze and I have the enamel so that'll get sanded and painted this week. woot.

The bodice top is coming along... I've gotten the double stitching done on the seams and I've finished one of the arm holes. I'll work on lining the bodice front and the skirt and get that whipped together this week...

That means all I'd have left to do is make the collar and sleeves, embroider the left one, and make the belting for the buckle and broach.  Should be done this week. I hope.

The buckle. It is awesome.

Battle Padme - I'm almost done with the jacket. I have to sew the two gores into the back and then add the ribbon. Then that's done. I need to make the ribbed shirt but if I can't get that done in time for D*Con then I'll just wear a red knit top underneath and work on the shirt for GMX

Those are the only two I'm trying to get finished for D*Con... I have a whole lot more I'm making. I plan on making at least 2 for GMX as well as helping two other people with costumes for the same con in October. Wish me luck.

Love the boots! Great fit!

5out of 5

Sizing: Feels true to size

Width: Feels true to width

Pros: Stable, Comfortable, Stylish

Best Uses: Cold Weather, Work, Date Night, Travel, Casual Wear

Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented

Was this a gift?: No

I love these boots! I bought them to use for a Star Wars costume for a convention. So far they're very comfortable and I'm so excited to find a pair of boots that actually fit in the calf! I want these in black to replace my other boots I use for another costume. I'm hoping the comfort will last all day since I'll have to wear them all day at Dragon*Con next month.

(legalese)

Mad Rush for Dragon*Con 2011!!!

So Battle Padme is coming along nicely, as is Mustafar Padme. Thank goodness! I've gotten a wig that I was planning on using for both Padme outfits, but it looks like it may only work for Mustafar. Sadness. It's a really nice wig, too. :\ Ah well. Okay, so I'm going to have to re-evaluate which costumes I'm taking to Dragon... I'll take any and all suggestions!

- Battle Padme - Episode I
- Mustafar Padme - Episode III
- Kaywinnit Lee Frye - Firefly Episode 4 "Shindig" - Oh yes, the fluffy!
- Kaylee Frye - Firefly Episode 1 "Serenity"
- Rose Tyler - Doctor Who "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances"
- Dr. Jennifer Keller - Stargate Atlantis
- Richard "Ringo" Langly - The X-Files / The Lone Gunmen

Those are the definites...I can't decide if I want to do any more... but here are the maybes:

- Lisa Garland - Silent Hill
- Rose Tyler - Doctor Who "Bad Wolf"
- Star Trek TOS Skant

What I did on my summer vacation...or Tuesday evening.

So tonight I cut out all of the velvet pieces for Padme's battle outfit. I've taken a few photos of them pinned on Judy2.0

I'm not stitching them together yet...not until my cranberry satin comes in. Also I need to order hook and eye tape for the front closure.

On with the pics!

Front, no flash - and apparently blurry.

Front, with flash

Front closeup. The fabrics aren't different colors but for some reason they look it here. Note the sleeves are pinned inside out - I just wanted to get an idea of how they'll look

Back view

I've decided I'm going to put some gores in to make the coat more swishy. Once the cranberry satin is I can line and sew this puppy together.

So I make pants now...

Not that it was hard...I've just never done it before.

Here are some in progress pics of BATTLE PADME's pants...Which btw are short pants to save on bulk with the boots...and to save fabric as well since I have a finite amount of velvet.

The pattern I used for the pants...and shortened. Oh look I can use this for the jacket too...and lengthen. *sigh*

Burgundy. Velvet. Pants. I had to figure out how to sew the ribbon trim on the outer seams. I managed. Looks good, too.

Closeup of the trim. It's not canon but it's damn close. Close enough to get me into Rebel Legion (I hope!)

Das pants so far. Still in progress.

Please for the love of GOD someone remind me to buy some Anti Monkey Butt so I don't get Swamp Ass from WEARING VELVET PANTS AT DRAGON*CON! Thanks. XOXO

More pics to come as I work on this AWESOME costume.

Dragon*Con 2011 Costumes

So I posted this on my personal facebook, but I didn't for The Patchwork Pirate. I'll post it here for you now. Here they are, the costumes I plan on doing for Dragon*Con this year!

Kaylee Frye - Shindig Dress / Fluffy Layer Cake Dress - Firefly "Shindig"

Padme Amidala - Battle outfit - The Phantom Menace

Padme Amidala - "Sleeveless" Outfit - Revenge of the Sith (If I have time)

Star Trek TOS Skant - Blue - Science Officer (Commander)

Rose Tyler - Pink dress (Faceless Rose?) - Doctor Who "The Idiot's Lantern"

Lisa Garland - Silent Hill (Maybe)

Kaylee Frye - Green Teddybear Coveralls - Firefly "Serenity"

Dr. Jennifer Keller - Stargate Atlantis (Season 4)

Rose Tyler - Doctor Who "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances"

Kaioh Michiru - Mugen School Uniform - Sailor Moon (Maybe)

Richard "Ringo" Langly - X-Files / The Lone Gunmen

Steampunk and its plague...

Warning: This is my opinion on the overabundance of the "Steampunk" craze going on. No offense to my friends who are all into it.

Steampunk used to be cool - back when there were only a few people who did it (and did it well). Don't get me wrong, I still like it, hell I have a steampunk outfit and raygun, but I think it's a bit overplayed...especially at conventions and the like. Nowadays anyone can slap on a pair of goggles and say they're steampunk. They buy brass goggles, and their plastic "ray guns". Where's the creativity in that?

It makes me sad, really. I enjoy the tea parties, the Victorian picnics, and I *love* the people who make their arms, guns, props, etc...They look fantastic, and the others (the kindergoths who found brown and etsy) are just giving the whole genre a bad name IMHO.

Another small irk: This past weekend the Kentucky Renaissance Festival held a Steampunk Weekend. WTF!? What part of Neo-Victorian / Steampunk / Blah blah blah is remotely related to Scotland in the 1300s? I understand the faire wants to draw a crowd, but that's just silly. Stick to a theme...you know...Scotland...1300s...Robert the Bruce...FREEEEEEEEEEDOOOMMMMM! etc.

Please note: I am however glad it worked and that they had a lot of people go through the gates.

Right now the whole thing is overdone and needs to be culled back before it really is like an annoying weed that just takes over everything....I miss the days of rare and random beautiful people with their brass and bronze. They were so shiny. Now they're so common you miss the really good ones for all of the bad ones that are out there.

Can't wait for the craze to be over so the originals can shine once more!

I'm pretty much just pissing and moaning, but it's my blog and I can do what I like.

Hypericon 7 - June 17th - 19th - Costume List

---I have a rather large list for Hypericon this year...

- Lisa Garland - Silent Hill
- Kaylee Frye - Firefly (green teddy bear coveralls)
- Kaylee Frye - Firefly (fluffy layer cake dress!)
- Star Trek Skant Uniform - TOS Science Blue
- Greta - Chuck
- Kaioh Michiru - Mugen School Uniform
- Rose Tyler - Doctor Who - The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances

That's all I have so far, and frankly - That may be enough!

Here's a pic of my Lisa costume! (well, the dress and sweater) - BTW, it's IMPOSSIBLE to find a red cardigan and Goodwill or any other thrift place this time of year. So what did I do? I bought a cheap red sweater, split it up the middle, and made my own friggin cardigan! :)

Also here's an in progress picture of Michiru's uniform:

ConGlomeration 2011

So ConGlomeration was a GREAT SUCCESS! (Very Nice!) I took 6 costumes, but ended up wearing 5... Which is fine since I only planned on the 6 to begin with. Here's what my costume schedule consisted of:

Friday Night - Rose Tyler "The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances" & Kaylee Teddybear Coveralls
Saturday (AM) - Kaylee Teddybear Coveralls
Saturday (Afternoon) - Wench Garb - Moresca Pirate Bodice, Chemise, Silver Squirrel "Absinthe" Skirt
Saturday (Evening) - Kaylee's Fluffy Layer Cake Dress (Entered in Masquerade)
Saturday (Night) - Super Sailor Neptune
Sunday - Yeah right...no costume for me! - Packup & Go Home

So as I just mentioned...I entered Kaylee's Fluffy Layer Cake in the Masquerade...well, I took BEST IN SHOW! w00t!

The Silk Taffeta Elizabethan... Update!

Yep, still working on this one. I'm beading and beading and beading! Still not finished. However, I moved the front of the skirt again and reattached so it's now at a point I like! Here are some pics!

Saturday, February 5, 2011

I just keep adding more and more to this gown...

So today as I was fixing the skirt and pinning the forepart to the underskirt,  I decided that the taupe trim just wasn't enough and that I had to do something with it! So here are the current update pics, finishing with a peek at the neckline trim and its beading. Yep, more beading. :)

The dress with the beaded forepart

Closeup of the forepart - look at those turquoise beeeeeeeeeads!

Lapis and freshwater pearl beading on the neckline

Closeup of the beading

So far, so good!

There you go folks! I'll try to take more pics as I progress. I'm mostly finished...just a lot of beadwork ahead. I have to do the beading on the skirt and figure out some kind of trim to add to the edge of the skirt. :)

Sunday, January 30, 2011

These sleeves...

...will be the death of me! I've got 1.5 sleeves beaded so far! I just have the back half to go and then they are ready for buttons so I can hook them onto the gown. Have I stated how much I hate beading? Good. :)

Also, purchased a new pink Punkyfish hoodie tonight. Ugh how I love Punkyfish. Damnit. -_-;

Next weekend, I'm going to the hair salon to trim my hair and make the colour more Rose-esque. As in blonde. :)

Peacock Elizabethan - Beading details..

So I've finished beading one half of one of the sleeves for the gown and as promised, here are the pictures of the brown underskirt forepart I'm going to use instead of the ugly gold one.

Check out all of those real turquoise pretties! Along w/pearls and other beads.

The forepart itself w/the diamond cutouts - I made this a year or so ago to go with another gown that I need to redo. It's too pretty to NOT use on this one!
Look! I finished pearling one HALF of one sleeve. *headdesk*

Pearling takes entirely too long....
