Examples of the recently completed... Rose Tyler

So this was a really quick costume I decided to put together for GMX 2010 - Rose Tyler from Doctor Who! It is being named second most comfortable costume ever...although quickly going up to first because I don't have to take it all off in certain situations like the coveralls...can we say not bathroom friendly?

So I'm not sure about most of these pics, but I'll try to credit them! If it's you then tell me!

Yeah yeah not in this one...but look at all those Doctors!

So this costume was mostly based on Rose's outfit in "Boom Town" with Nine. I wore this both Friday night and Saturday...and then again later Saturday night after the masquerade!

Costume consists of:
- Levi's denim jacket (my mom's from the 70's! w00t!)
- Plaid button down shirt (OP - Walmart of all places) - Friday night
- Grey fingerless gloves - instead of red... it's an old pair of long gloves I had that I cut the fingers off of
- Khaki skirt - instead of denim - Another Walmart find (clearance - 3 bucks) that I ended up cutting about 5" off of the bottom - Friday night
- Black tights - Friday night
- Black lace up boots
- Crazy blue/green/purple scarf that I already had... I want a rainbow one like Rose's lol!
- Teal and white tank tops - Saturday
- Levi's jeans - Saturday
So basically this was a throw together costume for Saturday because I was hella tired due to lack of sleep and was ready to change! Plus I had a wardrobe malfunction with my Star Trek costume's hose (big hole...destroyed lol) and didn't feel like being cold all day with no stockings. :D

I *love* this outfit and can't wait to put it on again! And thanks to Allan for being an awesome Nine with me!

Examples of the recently completed... Kaylee's Coveralls!

BY FAR the most comfortable costume ever!

Kaylee Frye
These are a set of Dutch Army WWII Coveralls - After I removed the sleeves, made a pocket out of one of the sleeves, added the patches and distressed the hell out of them!
I found this shirt at Goodwill - Not a temple shirt, but really close!
Found a perfect jacket on Etsy!
And an exact replica of one of Kaylee's necklaces at Jen Hilton Jewelry
 Completed Costume worn at WhedonFest2010
 Serenity Crew - WhedonFest 2010
Simon, Zoe, Mal, and Kaylee - WhedonFest2010

This was a super fun costume to make, and like I said, super fun to wear! I wore this at both Hypericon2010 and WhedonFest 2010... A bunch of us also met up in Louisville, KY to watch a midnight screening of Serenity in costume. I plan on wearing this a lot more in the future as well....it's just too comfy! :D

Examples of the recently completed... Burgandy Elizabethan Gown

So here are a few images of the most recent costumes I've completed, starting with the oldest...

The burgany Elizabethan gown... This is actually not really recent (2008), but one of my favorites.. My first adventure into sewing a HUGE gown! :D All and all I was really happy with how it turned out! One thing I learned is that you always bone the bodice, especially if you're short waisted. I made it so I could wear a corset underneath and not worry about the bodice, but now realize it needs something to keep it from bunching. I LOVE how the underskirt turned out... I sewed every bit of trim on it by hand. It's fabulous! I just wish I had a better picture of it. I guess I'll have to get it out and take another one. :)

I may end up selling this one, as it is a bit small on me now...that or fix it up for someone who wants to go noble at faire someday. ;)

Launch of the new blog...

Greetings all! Courtney here... So I've decided that since the Facebook fan page is a hit, I might as well start up an active blog of my costuming adventures / misadventures! This way everything is more current...

As much as I loved having Captaincutler.com, it was just being a hassle to keep updated and paid for. No need to pay for something I never used, right?

This is going to be easier for me I think. :D
